Purchasing a wig can be essential for many people facing difficult conditions such as hair loss due to cancer or other conditions. Fortunately, the Hellenic Health Services Organization (EOPYY) offers reimbursement for the purchase of a wig.

Today, we will try to provide you with all the necessary information for applying for wig compensation from EOPYY.

First, you should contact your doctor, as long as he or she is a dermatologist or oncologist. We often hear that the doctor who can prescribe a wig must work exclusively in a public hospital. This is no longer the case. You can also be served by a private doctor.

Bonus Tip: To get a wig prescription for diseases such as alopecia, you can go to either a private dermatology clinic or to public health facilities, such as the Andreas Syggros Hospital in Athens or the Hospital for Venereal and Skin Diseases in Thessaloniki. For chemotherapy, simply go to the oncologist who is treating you.

The National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPPY) reimburses you with 75% of the purchase price of the Wig up to a maximum of 189.75 euros . This means that if you buy a wig with a price of 500 euros, although 75% corresponds to the amount of 375 euros, you will be reimbursed with the maximum amount of 189.75 euros. You are entitled to the compensation every 2 years .

In addition to EOPPY, some insurance companies offer additional coverage for part or all of the cost of purchasing a wig in the event of a medical problem. We recommend that you contact your insurance advisor to obtain more information about this option and the conditions that apply.

ATTENTION : The wig prescription date must be prior to the wig purchase receipt date and the paperwork must be submitted within one month of the prescription date, otherwise you cannot receive compensation.

The supporting documents you must submit to EOPPY are the following:

1. A valid and active bank account number (IBAN), in which you are the sole beneficiary or co-beneficiary
2. The Prescription Paper
3. A wig purchase receipt, stamped and signed by the company from which the purchase was made and which will indicate the date of purchase, the patient's name and the product purchased.

The submission of supporting documents can be done electronically or in person in the following ways:

1. By appointment at the Regional Directorates of EOPYY (PE.DI.) , at the KEPs or at the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY).
2. Electronically through the Single Digital Portal of Public Administration ( SPG - gov.gr)

If you choose the electronic method of submitting the application, you will follow the instructions below:

1. Enter the page https://www.gov.gr/ipiresies/ugeia-kai-pronoia/iatropharmakeutike-perithalpse/apozemiose-tekhnetes-komes
2. Select “ Login to the service ” .
3. You connect with the taxisnet codes.
4. Fill in your AMKA in the field requested and press the ''Login'' button.
5. Once the process is complete, you will find a button on the home page that says “Submit Individual Request” .
6. In the subject of the request, we select “Wig Compensation” and after selecting “Regards: same” , our details appear automatically.
7. We fill in the IBAN and the amount (in the requested amount we fill in the exact amount of the wig purchase receipt).
8. In “ Opinion details ” we select the opinion and move it to “Selected”.
9. We are attaching the receipt and the proof that arranges the IBAN we declared for the payment of the compensation.
10. We check the required fields and finally submit the application .

Once the protocol number appears, the submission of the request has been successfully completed, and the money is usually paid to the account you have stated within approximately 30 business days from the date of submission of the request.
